AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM PPCT/DELPHI
Message from PPCT/Delphi Founder & Current Executive & Artistic Director
Reinaldo 'Rey-Rey' Martínez-Cubero:
My dear friends,
It is with quite a depth of mixed emotions that today I am announcing my resignation as Executive and Artistic Director of The Pied Piper Children’s Theatre of NYC and Delphi Theatre at Holy Trinity Church, Inwood. Since founding the theatre in 1999, PPCT/Delphi has been at the very center of my life. I have given my entire being to my work with the theatre and for the community, carrying the program through every joy, triumph, and hardship with all the love I am able to give. After 15 years of so many wonderful experiences, and so many blessings, it is a bit daunting to contemplate moving on to the next stage of my life without my “children” and my community. Nevertheless, this is to be my last season with PPCT/Delphi. My last day at work will be August 3, 2014, after the Summer Showcase, which ends this fifteenth anniversary season. At the end of August, I will be entering the Order of the Holy Cross as a Postulant to embark in a monastic way of life. While I am overjoyed about entering this exciting new stage in my life, one that I have been discerning for quite some time, it does come at the price of leaving a place, work, and friends that I love.
The Pied Piper Children’s Theatre of NYC and it wing, Delphi Theatre, will continue their operations. Matt Antar (current Executive Assistant and Production Manager) and I have already been working on the beginning stages of the transition. An Advisory Board of individuals that are involved, support and have demonstrated an extraordinary interest in the program over the years will be formed to advise, support, and help with a re-organization of the administration of the theatre programs, and with a formal search for a new Artistic Director.
The children I work with know that I always talk about being responsible and loyal to the end, and about “leaving right”, not fleeing or finding reason to leave angrily to avoid the difficult emotions of saying goodbye. I intend to be a good example in this regard, and will carry on with all my responsibilities until my very last day, making sure to leave PPCT/Delphi in a very healthy financial, and organizational state, ready to begin its sixteenth season. I have already been overwhelmed by the kindness and support from the vestry at Holy Trinity Church, and my friends who have known about my desire to explore my religious vocation. I now look forward to cherishing every single moment and experience my privileged position will continue to grant me during my final months with PPCT/Delphi.
If you pray, I ask that you keep PPCT/Delphi, Holy Trinity Church, and me in your prayers. If you don’t pray, please keep us in your thoughts, or at least cross your fingers, and send us good energy, as they say. I will be happy to answer any questions about anything, so please feel free to ask.
With much love and affection,
located at Holy Trinity Church, Inwood, on 20 Cumming Street (one block north
of Dyckman Street between Broadway and Seaman Avenues), NYC.
